Workshop:
The Situation: A complex area of low pressure lies over central New Zealand today. A westerly flow covers the North Island with light winds over the South Island.
And now the forecast to midnight tonight:
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAUPO, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: A mix of showers and fine breaks today. Westerly winds.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Showery about the main western ranges for much of the day. Mostly dry and mild further east. West to northwest winds.
WELLINGTON: A mix of cloud and fine breaks with a few showers possible about the valleys. Northerly breezes.
NELSON, BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Cloudy with patchy rain to most places today. Southwest breezes.
MARLBOROUGH: Cloudy skies with areas of patchy rain but increasing fine breaks inland. Light winds.
CANTERBURY, OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Cloudy with further outbreaks of rain near the coast but long fine periods developing inland. Mostly light winds but northeasterlies about the Otago coast.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Overcast with further rain. Northerly winds.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Showers to the west of both islands with westerly winds. Mostly dry and mild in the east. At the Chathams, Cloudy with further outbreaks of rain.
