Weather Workshop: 5 day forecast for NZ

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Wednesday.

Situation: A low to the west of New Zealand spreads a moist northeast flow over the country today. The low becomes more complex tomorrow with a northwest flow developing over the Upper North Island and easterlies remaining in the South Island. On Monday the low passes over the south of the South Island with the
flow turning westerly. A front within this westerly flow moves onto the country early Tuesday and a second front crosses the country on Wednesday.

NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO and TAUMARANUI: Showery for most of the period but with fine intervals at times. Gusty northwest winds turning westerly on Monday. Showers turn to rain on Wednesday with westerlies turning southwest later.

BAY of PLENTY, ROTORUA and TAUPO: Showery today and tomorrow but long fine breaks developing in Bay of Plenty on Sunday. On Monday, showers become widespread for a time with strengthening westerly winds. Cloudy at times on Tuesday with a few late showers. Rain developing on Wednesday with westerlies turning southwest later.

TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Showery today through until Tuesday with westerly winds predominating. Showers turning rain on Wednesday with southwesterlies developing later

GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Mostly cloudy today and tomorrow with patchy rain spreading off the main ranges from time to time. Showers and southwesterlies for a time Monday then clearing and becoming fine Tuesday with gusty westerly winds. Patchy rain developing on Wednesday with gusty northwest winds.

WELLINGTON: Cloudy today and tomorrow with showers at times. Cloud and fine breaks on Monday then showers and southerlies for a time late in the day. Mainly fine on Tuesday then rain developing on Wednesday with gusty northerlies turning southerly after dark.

NELSON: Cloudy with rain at times today and tomorrow. Rain clearing late Sunday. Cloud increasing Monday with some late rain. Mainly fine on Tuesday then rain developing early Wednesday.

BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Cloudy today with patchy rain, chiefly north of Westport. Tomorrow, rain spreading further south. Showers on Monday turning to rain late Tuesday and further outbreaks of rain on Wednesday.

MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Rain to most places today with heavy falls about the Kaikoura ranges and North Canterbury. Further outbreaks of rain tomorrow. Rain clearing inland on Monday but a few drizzle patches remain about the coast. Mainly fine with westerlies on Tuesday then rain developing on Wednesday.

OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Cloud increasing today with patchy rain developing about the Otago coast. Patchy rain spreading to most places tomorrow. Further rain on Monday easing to showers Tuesday. Showers and cool southwesterlies on Wednesday.

CHATHAM ISLANDS: Outbreaks of rain today and tomorrow. Rain easing to a few showers on Monday with further showers on Tuesday and Wednesday.
