The Situation: A ridge of high pressure over the country is weakening. A low in the north Tasman Sea is deepening and moving southeast towards the country.
NORTHLAND: Cloud increasing with a few showers developing this morning then turning to rain later in the day. Northeast winds becoming gusty about the east coast.
AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA, TAUPO, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI and TARANAKI: Mainly fine at first. High cloud increasing this afternoon and a few showers developing about Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula this evening. Northeast winds.
TAIHAPE, WANGANUI, MANAWATU, WELLINGTON, GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY, WAIRARAPA, NELSON and MARLBOROUGH: Mainly fine with northeast breezes.
CANTERBURY: A few fog patches and areas of coastal cloud morning and night, otherwise fine weather. Northeast winds.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Mainly fine apart from cloud and a few light showers about southern Fiordland. Light winds.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Mainly fine inland with light winds. About the coast, cloudy at times with a few light showers possible. Southwest winds.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: A few showers with southwest winds continuing.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Rain in the North Island north of about Taupo. High cloud and dry further south. High cloud developing over much of the South Island with a few drizzle patches along the east coast and about Nelson but dry elsewhere. At the Chathams, a mix of cloud and fine breaks with southwesterlies easing.
