Weather Workshop: 5 day forecast for NZ

Issued by Weather Workshop on Friday, July 09, 1999 at 11.00am

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Tuesday.

Situation: A high is gradually spreading onto the country today from the Tasman Sea and should affect most areas over the weekend. During Sunday a weak trough is expected to move onto the far south of the South Island spreading further north for a time. Monday sees the anticyclone drifting east of the North Island as a more active trough of low pressure approaches the lower South Island. The trough moves onto northern areas Tuesday as a new high in the south Tasman Sea spreading a ridge towards Otago and Southland.

NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY, ROTORUA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TAUPO, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI and MANAWATU: A few showers persisting about Northland today, elsewhere fine or becoming fine with frosts overnight south of Auckland. Cloudy periods tomorrow and Sunday from eastern Northland to Coromandel Peninsula with a few light showers, otherwise fine again. On Monday cloudy in western areas from Taranaki southwards, also about the central plateau. Tuesday sees patchy rain developing there, elsewhere staying dry.

GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Remaining showers clearing today and mostly fine tomorrow and Sunday. Brief coastal showers possible Monday south of Napier otherwise dry. Mostly fine Tuesday.

WELLINGTON: Skies clearing later today and fine and frosty tomorrow. Cloudy periods Sunday. A few brief showers possible Monday. On Tuesday rain likely.
