All Districts forecast from Weather Workshop:
The Situation: A ridge of high pressure should gradually move
off the North Island during the day as a front advances onto
the South Island. A strong north to northwest flow precedes
the front.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA and BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA:
Cloudy periods about Northland and Auckland spreading elsewhere this
afternoon and evening. A few light showers likely from Auckland
northwards after dark. Breezy north to northwest winds.
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TAUPO, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE, WANGANUI
and MANAWATU: Skies rather cloudy with drizzly showers developing
towards evening. Gusty northwest winds.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: A dry day ahead with areas of
high cloud but sunny periods too. Northwest winds, strong and gusty
about Wairarapa.
WELLINGTON: Cloudy skies. A few drizzle patches in the north at
first spreading elsewhere towards evening. A windy day with
strong gusty northerlies.
NELSON: Rain about the western ranges spreading further east from
late afternoon. Northerlies freshening this morning.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Overcast with periods of rain. Heavy
falls expected south of the glaciers. Breezy north to northeast winds.
MARLBOROUGH: Gusty northwest winds. Dry for much of the time with
high cloud but from this evening a few falls of rain are likely to
spread from the west.
CANTERBURY: Rain about the main divide. Elsewhere cloudy with
gusty northwesterlies. A mild afternoon.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: Rain spreading to most places today then easing
to showers later. Northwesterlies easing and turning to colder
southerlies this afternoon. Showers becoming confined to the south
coast by evening with skies breaking elsewhere.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloudy with northwesterlies strengthening. Some
rain likely later in the day.
THE OUTLOOK FOR TOMORROW: Rain in many parts of the North Island
then breaking to showers in the north and west later. A clearance
in eastern areas after dark. Over the South Island slowly becoming
fine along the west coast, showers likely elsewhere. At the Chatham,
periods of rain.
