Weather Workshop: 5 day forecast for NZ
The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of
New Zealand to midnight Wednesday.
Situation: A
shallow depression with associated frontal cloud
is
crossing northern New Zealand today. At the same time a cold
front is moving northeast over remaining North Island
areas as
a ridge of high pressure spreads onto the South
Island. The
ridge should work further north tomorrow.
From Monday onwards
a large intense anticyclone is
expected to gradually approach
from the Tasman Sea to be
centred over the country by Wednesday.
NORTHLAND,
AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA,
WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE,TAUPO,
WANGANUI
and MANAWATU: Some rain or showers in most
places today. Snow is
possible tonight about the central
plateau which may affect the
Desert Road. Becoming fine
from the south during tomorrow.
Continuing mostly fine
after that with overnight frosts south
of about
Auckland. Expect a few for patches also, especially in
Waikato. A few cloudy areas likely from Northland to
Coromandel
Peninsula from Tuesday onwards.
GISBORNE,
HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Cloudy today with a few
showers then clearing from the south during tomorrow.
Mainly
fine Monday to Wednesday with overnight
frosts.
WELLINGTON: A few brief showers today with cold
southerlies.
Fine periods increasing overnight and
becoming fine and frosty
tomorrow. Mainly fine weather
continuing for the rest of the
period. Winds mostly
light.
NELSON: Showers and cloud clearing later today then
fine and
frosty for remaining days with light
winds.
MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: Occasional rain easing
to a few
coastal showers by this evening. Some snow to
500 metres at
first. A clearance working north overnight
then fine and
frosty tomorrow. Monday onwards sees
generally fine conditions
with overnight frosts. Also a
few foggy areas expected.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND:
Remaining showers clearing
from Buller today elsewhere
fine and frosty. Tomorrow fine in
most places but about
the fiords cloudy periods likely with
the odd light
shower in the far south. Mainly fine everywhere
Monday
and Tuesday. Cloud increasing south of the glaciers
Wednesday otherwise continuing dry.
OTAGO and
SOUTHLAND: Showers becoming confined to the coast
today
with fine very cold weather inland. Severe frosts there
overnight. Tomorrow sees coastal cloud with the odd
light shower
in the south otherwise continuing fine and
frosty. On Monday and
Tuesday fine everywhere. Cloudy
periods Wednesday but dry.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cold and
showery with southwesterlies for much
of the period.
