Weather Workshop: Five Day Forecast
Issued by Weather Workshop on Thursday, June 24, 1999 at noon.

Situation: A ridge covers much of New Zealand today from an anticyclone over the central and south Tasman Sea. Tomorrow sees the ridge persisting in most areas but in the far north easterlies should freshen as a trough well to the northwest drifts south a little. Also a cold front is likely to approach the far southwest late in the day. During Saturday the Tasman Sea high intensifies and pushes a brief cold outbreak over the South Island. At the same time the trough in the north spreads onto the upper North Island. Sunday and Monday sees a southwest flow easing over the country as the high drifts further east.

Tomorrow, patchy rain developing about Northland with cloudy periods as far south as Waikato, elsewhere continuing fine and frosty. Saturday sees rain areas spreading as far south as the central plateau but from Auckland northwards expect showers and fine spells. A few showers everywhere Sunday with snow to the central mountains. On Monday becoming fine in most areas but cloudy periods from eastern Coromandel Peninsula to Northland with the odd shower persisting there, also showers continuing about the main ranges further south.
