Weather Workshop: Five Day Forecast

The long range forecast from Weather Workshop for all of New Zealand to midnight Tuesday.
Situation: A disturbed southwest flow covers much of the country today. A weak cold front over southern New Zealand is moving northeast but should have little affect further north. Tomorrow a ridge of high pressure is expected to cross from the west ahead of a trough over the Tasman Sea. The trough is expected to approach during Sunday crossing much of New Zealand Monday. A cold south to southwest airstream follows on Tuesday.
NORTHLAND, AUCKLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA, BAY of PLENTY/ROTORUA, WAIKATO, WAITOMO, TAUMARANUI, TARANAKI, TAIHAPE and TAUPO: A few showers becoming more frequent for a time later today but from Bay of Plenty to Taupo remaining fine. Tomorrow showers continuing about and north of Auckland, elsewhere mostly fine. Cloud increasing on Sunday then rain gradually spreading into western areas later. Rain or showers everywhere Monday. Tuesday sees clearing skies for most with showers becoming confined to the main eastern ranges.
WANGANUI and MANAWATU: Mainly fine today and tomorrow. Cloud thickening Sunday with scattered rain after dark. Rain easing to showers Monday with fine breaks increasing from the south. Showers becoming confined to the eastern ranges during Tuesday and clearing elsewhere.
GISBORNE, HAWKES BAY and WAIRARAPA: Fine today. A few brief coastal showers possible early tomorrow otherwise fine again. Dry Sunday with increasing high cloud. Rain in most places Monday with colder southerlies then breaking to showers from the south. Showers becoming confined to the coast Tuesday with skies slowly breaking inland.
WELLINGTON: Fine today and for much of tomorrow then cloud increasing. Rain developing later Sunday. Monday sees rain easing to showers with colder southerlies. Showers with lengthening fine periods Tuesday.
NELSON and MARLBOROUGH: Mainly fine today and tomorrow, however, brief showers may affect the Kaikoura Coast late tonight. On Sunday cloud thickening with some rain likely later. Monday sees skies clearing about Nelson and inland areas of Marlborough but along the east coast and sounds showers continuing with cold southerlies. Coastal showers clearing Tuesday, fine elsewhere.
BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: A
mix of showers and fine periods today. From early tomorrow
clearing in most places but south of the glaciers cloudy
with rain developing later. On Sunday rain becoming
widespread then about Fiordland becoming fine from the south
later. Remaining showers clearing from Buller Monday,
eslewhere fine and frosty. Tuesday sees mostly fine weather
but
cloudy about Fiordland with light showers developing
there.
CANTERBURY: A few coastal showers possible this afternoon otherwise fine. Mostly fine tomorrow. Sunday sees conditions dry at first then southwesterlies spreading from the south with showers and turning colder. Showers becoming confined to coastal places Monday and slowly clearing inland. Mainly fine and frosty Tuesday.
OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: A few coastal showers today, mainly fine inland. Tomorrow cloud increasing with rain developing in the far west at night. Rain easing to showers Sunday with colder southwesterlies developing. On Monday becoming fine and frosty inland but coastal showers persisting. Showers about the south coast Tuesday otherwise fine again.
CHATHAM ISLANDS: Showery periods today and tomorrow but during Saturday showers and wind both easing. On Sunday a mix of cloudy and fine weather. Rain developing Monday with northerlies. Tuesday sees it turning colder again with rain and southerlies.
