Kiwi Connection To Sharpest Image Of The Universe: Rocket Lab Technology Helps Power NASA's James Webb Space Telescope
No doubt you’ve seen the exciting news from NASA and US President Biden today about the image taken by the James Webb Space Telescope. It’s the deepest and sharpest infrared image of the distant universe to date. It’s breathtaking.
“Thousands of galaxies – including the faintest objects ever observed in the infrared – have appeared in Webb’s view for the first time. This slice of the vast universe covers a patch of sky approximately the size of a grain of sand held at arm’s length by someone on the ground.”
And there's a Kiwi connection.
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is powered by Rocket Lab technology. SolAero Technologies Inc, a solar space power company that Rocket Lab acquired at the start of this year, supplied the high-efficiency triple-junction solar cells that convert sunlight to power on the JWST.
That’s right, Rocket Lab makes satellite components and space solar power systems now – much more than just rockets in this lab!
