We did it.
We, activists of international environmentalist group Extinction Rebellion, are behind the OMV hoax recently causing
confusion among journalists around the world.
We targeted OMV because it is a fossil fuel company spending a lot of money to greenwash its image into that of an
environmentally friendly corporation. Fossil fuels and fossil fuel producers are part of the problem, not the solution.
OMV’s so-called successes, such as the much-hyped plastic-into-oil experiment are running at a scale so tiny in
comparison it would take years to produce as much as a single day’s conventional oil output.
Therefore, we decided to present you a vision of what would happen if the OMV suddenly decided to truly take the climate
emergency seriously. The outlined “Long Term Sustainable Development Plan” provides an ambitious path towards
decarbonisation – which is, by Extinction Rebellion standards, not even close to what we want: net zero emissions by
2025!
