Reuters reporters finally freed in Myanmar!
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is deeply relieved to learn that Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were released from prison.
The two reporters spent a total of 511 days far from their families because they dared to investigate a subject that is banned in Myanmar, the genocide of the country’s Rohingya minority. When they were framed by the police and arrested in December 2017, over 7000 of you signed the petition launched by RSF to draw the public’s attention to their case. Since then, you have helped us continue our work to obtain their release, thank you!
But the fight
is not over!
Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo were
finally pardoned but the journalists’ conviction
has been upheld. All other journalists have been
sent the chilling message that they too could face 18 months
in prison if they dare to investigate subjects that are off
limits.
More than ever, we are counting on your support to help us obtain the
release of
journalists.
