SPTO welcomes new Tourism Planning Officer
The South Pacific Tourism Organisation welcomes Mr. Ahmad Ali to the position of Tourism Planning Officer and as part of the Sustainable Tourism Development Division.
“The scope of our work in sustainable tourism development is expanding and to support the evolving priorities of our 19 Pacific Island member countries and growing opportunities and challenges in this area, the Sustainable Tourism Development Division was established in 2016 to address these needs,” said SPTO CEO, Chris Cocker.
Cocker added that Ahmad is a welcome addition to the team and his expertise will help support efforts to strengthen the capacity of the Sustainable Tourism Development Division in addressing the needs and priorities of our members and stakeholders.
Mr. Ahmad Ali holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Development Studies as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Management & Public Administration from the University of the South Pacific with extensive experience in development, humanitarian response, programme management, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.
He has also worked with notable organisations such as the International Labour Organisation and the Peoples Community Network.
“I am looking forward to working with the dynamic team at SPTO and as well as our member countries, stakeholders and partners in the Pacific tourism industry”, said Mr Ali.
Mr.
Ali’s role as the Tourism Planning Officer will be to
assist the Sustainable Tourism Development Manager, Ms.
Christina Leala-Gale in the planning, documentation and
implementation of sustainable tourism strategies, policies
and projects in aid of regional sustainable tourism
priorities of SPTO members. These will also involve strategy
development and implementation; monitoring and evaluation;
technical support to member countries and the industry;
project design; research; and partner and donor relationship
management
