SETF Applauds Strikes on Syrian Regime Targets
Washington DC - The Syrian Emergency Task Force welcomes President Trump’s strikes against the Assad Regime in response to the recent
chemical weapon attack against civilians in the Eastern Douma region of Damascus suburbs.
Such punitive strikes by President Trump send a clear message to the Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian backers
that the United States will not tolerate violations of the international agreement prohibiting the use of chemical
weapons. Moreover, as with the strikes that took place after the chemical weapons attack against the Syrian town of Khan
Sheikhoun in 2017, President Trump has yet again demonstrated the United States’ resolve to use force when needed to
uphold important international norms and that the commitment to preserve the red lines we set as a country still stands.
We now call upon the Trump Administration, France and Britain to lead an initiative to inject fresh impetus into the
international diplomatic effort to end the killing in Syria by concluding a negotiated settlement of the fighting.
SETF stands by the President’s decision to do the right thing and encourages the Administration to look into further
measures to prevent such attacks from happening again in the future and to protect civilian populations across Syria.
