2017 Pacific Update Conference to be held at USP
The 2017 Pacific Update Conference co-organised by The University of the South Pacific’s (USP) School of Economics,
Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Australian National University’s (ANU) Development Policy Centre will be held at USP’s
Japan-Pacific ICT Multipurpose Theatre, Laucala Campus from 20 – 21 June 2017.
This annual event gathers policymakers, academics and researchers, business people, and development practitioners to
present and discuss economic, social, and regional developments in the Pacific.
The Fijian Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts and National Archives of Fiji, Honourable Dr Mahendra Reddy will
deliver the keynote address and officially open the two day conference. Dame Meg Taylor, Secretary General, Pacific
Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) will deliver the opening remarks.
Sessions of the Pacific Update Conference will be around three (3) main themes of pressing importance to countries in
the Pacific region and these are:
• Blue-Green economy - including but not limited to climate change and disaster resilience;
• Enhancing connectivity - e.g. regional cooperation, trade, infrastructure, and Information and Communications
Technology; and
• Labour mobility, job creation, and labour market developments.
USP cordially extends invitation to government officials, regional bodies, diplomats, business community, academics,
students and members of the general public to participate in the conference.
All participants are required to register which is free and participants can register at the venue from 8:30 am on both
days.
