Australian Development Grants Now Open in Cook Islands And Niue
The Australian High Commission is now accepting applications for the Australian Government’s 2016-17 Direct Aid Program
grants round.
The Direct Aid Program provides grants of up to NZD $10,000 for small-scale development projects aimed at alleviating
hardship and advancing development outcomes in disadvantaged communities.
Non-government organisations and government ministries in the Cook Islands and Niue are eligible to apply. All projects
must be implemented solely in the applicant’s region.
The Australian High Commissioner in Wellington, Peter Woolcott said “I am delighted that we are again able to offer this
support. So far under the Direct Aid Program, the Australian High Commission has proudly supported a range of projects
including a mental health rehabilitation program in the Cook Islands and an electronic reading program for young people
in Niue.”
“The program recognises that small projects can have a big impact on local communities; their strength is that the ideas
come from the communities themselves. We are really looking forward to receiving your ideas for the 2016-17 grants.”
Innovative and well prepared applications are encouraged, with preference given to projects that benefit children; women
and girls; people with a disability; or people in remote or rural communities.
Applications for the 2016-17 grant round close on 15 October 2016 (New Zealand time) and late applications will not be considered.
