APTC delivers training to emerging leaders in Solomon Islands
Around 40 people from the public and private sector in the Solomon Islands successfully completed the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management course delivered by the Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC) in May.
APTC is an innovative development project funded by the Australian Government, delivering Australian-standard skills and qualifications for a wide range of vocational careers for skilled workers across the Pacific.
The 10-week course was specifically funded to strengthen emerging leaders and managers, especially in private sector businesses, focusing on various aspects of leadership and management practice.
The course covered topics like understanding leadership styles, workplace health and safety, risk management and tools for effective management of staff.
One of the participants, Ms Nina Rachel Tuhaika from the Solomon Islands Women in Business Association (SIWIBA) found the training very timely and useful.
“I did performance appraisal at work using the knowledge I had learnt in the course. This helped ensure the best outcome for this process,” she said.
APTC Solomon Islands Country Manager, Ms Pamela Morgan said that there has been overwhelming interest in the course because businesses in Solomon Islands realise the economic opportunities that are available through a skilled workforce.
She added that the delivery of the course is timely and relevant, as it assists the Australian Government in providing support for economic growth to Solomon Islands.
Course participants include team leaders from SIWIBA, Telecom, Solomon Power, South Pacific Oil, Solomon Islands Port Authority, Solomon Islands Water Authority, Pan Oceanic Bank, Premier Group, Kokonut Pacific and Island Enterprises.
They will be awarded their qualification at the APTC graduation ceremony which will be held later this year.
