Winston help from Singapore
SUVA – March 31, 2016. Friends and business associates of Fiji continue to send in relief and support items for those severely affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston which wreaked havoc in most parts of the country almost six-weeks-ago.
In a latest gesture of support, Singapore based Malaysia Dairy Industries PTE Limited (MDI) has handed over 405 cartons of Marigold fruit drinks to the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) through its local distributors Motibhai Group.
MDI head of exports Freddy Tan said the company is happy to assist its Fijian friends in whatever small way they can during such trying times when people affected are trying hard to get their lives back to normal.
“I have been told that Fiji is in top gear as far as rebuilding and getting life back to normality is concerned and we are happy to help in a small way from our end,” Mr Tan said.
He said the people of Singapore have their Fijian friends in their thoughts and prayers wishing everyone affected a quick recovery from the devastating effects of TC Winston, officially rated as the world’s second most severe cyclone to date.
While handing over the drinks to NDMO officials on behalf of MDI, Motibhai Group marketing manager Abraham Gomes said the donation will be directed towards schools which were severely affected by TC Winston.
Taking delivery of the items, Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management Deputy Secretary Loata Vakacegu said Fiji on its own will not be in a position to handle the disaster created by TC Winston and timely help from donors and well-wishers will go a long way in rebuilding the country.
“The Fijian Government is very thankful to each and every donor and overseas suppliers who have and are still contributing towards our relief and rebuilding efforts,” Ms Vakacegu said.
