Obama Visit All But Confirmed

Obama Visit All But Confirmed

The Trans Tasman Political Alert can reveal a top FBI official has been in talks at the Beehive today, and is believed to be laying the ground work for a visit to NZ by President Barack Obama. Trans Tasman learned of the development earlier in the week from overseas sources.

The NZ Govt has had a standing invitation to the president to visit NZ and it is understood he has indicated to John Key he would like to complete the mission in his final year in office.

Earlier there had been speculation the President might come here at the tail end of visits to other countries in the Asia-Pacific region with April or June being nominated as likely dates.

The last president to visit NZ was Bill Clinton who came here for the APEC conference in Auckland in 1999. He also visited Queenstown and played a round of golf at Millbrook, an experience President Obama might emulate.
