Three villages in Papua are facing starvation

Jayapura (ANTARA News) - Regent Peak Willem Wandik admit inhabitabitan ofthree villages in the region ofAgandume District are in danger of starvation due to hail in the region.

Hail that occur almost every year, especially in June-July that cause plants to rot cause the people in danger of starvation, said Regent Wandik to Antara in Jayapura on Monday.

Wandik admits, as a result of hail crops such as tubers can not be harvested and consumed due to rot, but there is no report of casualties as a result of this.

Agandume the villages in the district affected by the hail was Agamdugume, Tuput and villages Jiwot.

District residents Agandume Wandik revealed about 11,000 inhabitants.

According to him, because this is a natural phenomenon, the residents usually flee to Sinak and surrounding areas.

"Tuesday (14/7) I will to the site to see first hand the conditions of society and what can be helped to overcome," said Willem Wandik.
