The U.S. government is deeply disappointed in the Egyptian court’s decision in the case of U.S. citizen Mohamed Soltan.
We understand from reports that Mr. Soltan has been sentenced to life in prison.
We remain deeply concerned about Mr. Soltan’s health and detention. The United States reiterates our call for the
release of Mr. Soltan on humanitarian grounds, and we urge the Government of Egypt to redress this verdict.
The Department of State takes its assistance to U.S. citizens abroad very seriously. Embassy officials remain in contact
with Mr. Soltan and will continue to provide all possible consular assistance.
