AIDCP: A Model for Fisheries Around the World
In today's modern world, it's easy to forget how the food on your table actually gets there. The reality is that there is a long and complicated supply chain to get the tuna from the ocean to your sandwich. Fortunately, the AIDCP ha created a short video about fishing for tuna in the Eastern Tropical Pacific to help explain this process.
The video walks you through all the steps in the fishing process from first spotting the schools of tuna to bringing the catch on board. It discusses the history of tuna fishing and the reforms that the fishing industry has implemented over the years. As noted by Gerry Leape of The Pew Charitable Trusts, the AIDCP program has been able to take the Eastern Pacific fishery from "...hundreds of thousands of dolphins dying to the tens of thousands. We've reduced it significantly from there and we're consistently below a thousand...I think it [AIDCP] is a program that should be proud of its success."
