Mexico – a World Leader in Agro-Exports
In 2014, Mexican agri-food exports (including the agricultural, livestock, fisheries and industrial sectors) were valued
at more than a record 25 and a half billion US dollars.
The main exports were beer, tomatoes, avocados, tequila, peppers, beef, raspberries and blackberries.
Other Mexican agricultural products welcomed all over the globe are honey (worth 147 million US dollars in 2014);
avocados, of which Mexico is the world’s largest producer and exporter; limes (14 per cent of the world’s limes come
from Mexico) and of course, green chillies, where again Mexican exports lead the world.
Mexican food products are present in more than 150 countries on five continents, due to their excellent quality and the
careful and highly sophisticated processes used for their cultivation, preservation and transportation. In addition,
Mexico’s network of trade agreements means that the most demanding palates can enjoy Mexican raspberries in Tokyo, agave
nectar in Riyadh or a spicy guacamole in Berlin.
Mexican agricultural products in the New Zealand market include mangoes, table grapes, bananas and agave derivatives.
For some years, compliance with strict New Zealand bio-sanitary protocols has been carefully evaluated by the
Governments of Mexico and New Zealand, with a view to allowing this country’s consumers to put more high quality Mexican
agricultural products on their tables.
