Dr. Ashrawi: “To the fullest extent, we condemn the latest attacks in Paris and in Copenhagen and reject all forms of
violence against innocent civilians”
PLO Executive Committee member, Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, met with the newly appointed Head of Mission of the Netherlands
Representative Office, Peter Mollema, at the PLO Headquarters in Ramallah and welcomed him to Palestine.
In the meeting, Dr. Ashrawi expressed her hope that the Dutch government would continue to play a positive role in the
region and to adopt serious and concrete political initiatives to bring Israel to compliance with international law, to
end the military occupation, and to establish the independent Palestinian state on 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its
capital. She also called on the Dutch government to recognize Palestine without preconditions in the immediate future.
Both parties discussed efforts of mutual cooperation and understanding, and Dr. Ashrawi provided Mr. Mollema with an
assessment of the latest Palestinian political developments, the deterioration of conditions on the ground and Israel’s
violations of international law, including the expansion of its illegal settlement enterprise and the increase in the
number of home demolitions in and around Jerusalem:
“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned visit to the Ibrahimi Mosque next month is a deliberate act of
provocation.”
In relation the latest acts of terror in Europe, Dr. Ashrawi stressed:
“We express our solidarity with Europe and commend its people for their profound will and steadfastness in the face of
violence which has been fueled by extremists.
To the fullest extent, we condemn the latest attacks in Paris and in Copenhagen and reject all forms of violence against
innocent civilians.
With his proposal to support a $46 million plan to encourage Jewish migration from Belgium, France and Ukraine,
Netanyahu is exploiting the pain of others. Unlike Netanyahu, we trust all European countries to deal with the root
causes of such horrific acts of violence and to provide security and safety to all of its citizens, regardless of race,
ethnic origin or religion.”
