Dr. Ashrawi: “Israel is intent on providing the ICC with further evidence of its lawlessness”
PLO Executive Committee member, Dr. Hanan Ashrawi strongly condemned the latest announcement by the Israeli government to build 430 illegal settlement units (112 in Adam, 156 in Elkana, 78 in Alfei Menashe and 84 in Kiryat Arba):
“With the escalation of its illegal settlement activities, the Israeli government is once again exposing its true intentions of creating ‘Greater Israel’ at the expense of the strategic requirements for peace.
Israel has clearly demonstrated that it is not a partner for peace nor a member of the international community that respects international law.
Once again, Palestinian lives, rights and lands are being violated in the service of Israeli election campaigns.
Israel is intent on providing the ICC with further evidence of its lawlessness. Such action demonstrates the urgency of having international judicial intervention by the ICC.
We call upon the members of the international community to hold Israel accountable immediately and adopt punitive measures in response to its illegal settlement activities and other blatant violations of international law.”
