Iran: Call to save life of political prisoner Ali Moezzi
Recently, the henchmen of the anti-human regime of the mullahs suddenly transferred political prisoner Mr. Ali Moezzi
who has just a few months remaining from his sentence and about to be released, from the Gohardasht Prison in Karaj to
the solitary cells of ward 209 of the infamous Evin Prison and placed him under heinous pressures. Regime’s intelligence
henchmen have numerously told Mr. Moezzi that they shall ultimately “torment you to death and finish you off” in prison
and you should not leave the prison alive. The tormenting to death and the murdering of political prisoners is a
well-known and ordinary method employed by the clerical regime. Henchmen refuse to respond to Mr. Moezzi’s family who
are worried about his life. His brother Mohammad Moezzi was executed in 1981 because of his support for the PMOI.
Mr. Ali Moezzi who is suffering from various diseases, including acute renal problem and obstruction of intestine,
because of years of imprisonment and torture became unconscious on September 30 due to severe pain in the stomach.
Following protests by his cellmates, the henchmen were forced to transfer him to a hospital in Karaj. In order to
further pressure him, they chained his hand and leg to the bed even in the hospital. A week after his hospitalization,
while his treatment was still incomplete, he was returned to prison where he is deprived of the least medical care. On
October 12, when he was expected to be transferred to the hospital for treatment, he was suddenly taken to the Evin
Prison in Tehran.
Mr. Ali Moezzi who is a political prisoner of the 1980s, was arrested in 2008 and condemned to two years in prison and
three years of suspended prison for visiting his two children in Camp Ashraf. He was imprisoned for a third time in June
2011 for participating in the memorial ceremony of Mr. Ali Saremi, a political prisoner and supporter of the PMOI that
was executed by the clerical regime.
Because of his support for the PMOI and his stances against the suppressive measures of the regime concerning the
Iranian Resistance, Mr. Moezzi was constantly under the most severe physical and psychological pressures.
The Iranian Resistance calls on all human rights bodies, especially the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the
Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, and the Rapporteurs on arbitrary detention and torture, to
take effective action to save the life of this political prisoner that has been under severe pressure and torture in the
past month and about to be tormented to death.
