Gaza: PGA Calls for End to Violence
New York/The Hague, 4 August 2014 - Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) President and New Zealand Member of
Parliament, Ross Robertson, is calling for an end to violence in the Gaza Strip and in Israel.
“The involvement of civilians is a crime against humanity,” said Ross Robertson.
“We associate ourselves with the positions expressed by the Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), Mr. Ban Ki
Moon, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Judge Navi Pillay, and otherl international, regional and national
institutions and organizations that have called for an end to the hostilities and the respect of International Law.
“As an organisation we condemn the attacks directed against civilians by all sides, and stress that the rules of
International Humanitarian Law (IHL) must be respected by all parties participating in an armed conflict of
international or non-international character, whether these parties are state or non-state armed forces,” he said.
“PGA calls upon the State of Israel and the Palestinian authority to ratify the Rome Statute of the International
Criminal Court so as to ensure access to justice for victims of war crimes and crimes against humanity and. encourages
the international community to continue its effort to bring this crisis to an end,” said Ross Robertson.
