Community Advisory: Traveling To and From Gaza, Palestine
July 16, 2014
As the violence in Gaza continues, the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) urges U.S. citizens in Palestine to exercise caution and diligence. If you, or someone you know, are having trouble leaving Palestine, including Gaza, please contact the U.S. Embassy.
Further, please contact the ADC Legal Department by sending an email with relevant information to legal@adc.org. Traveler information that should be included in all correspondences to ADC and the U.S. Department of State is as follows:
• Full name as it appears on passport
• Date of birth
• Place of birth
• Passport number
• Description of any medical needs
• Contact information
Due to the inaccessibility of internet and e-mail in Gaza, representatives of U.S. citizens can also submit the information on behalf of the traveler(s). Please make sure that the information above is readily available and easily accessible. It is recommended that the traveler forward the information to a trusted representative in the United States.
If you, or a U.S. citizen you know, are detained by Israeli officials, please contact the U.S. State Department and the ADC Legal Department immediately. Please be sure to include the identifying information listed above, as well as the date, time, and location where the individual was detained.
United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) has reported that at least 17,000 people from northern Gaza have evacuated and sought refuge in UN shelters. To date, there have been over 100 civilian casualties in Gaza, of which 70% are estimated by the United Nations to be women and children.
