American Anti-Gay Pastor Cancels Swiss Appearance After Gay Rights Group Protests
Lou Engle - who called for the death penalty for gay people in Uganda - cancels participation in TheCall Geneva after
64,653 All Out members demand the Swiss government and host venue respond
New York - May 20th 2014 - Notorious anti-gay pastor Lou Engle has cancelled his trip to Geneva, Switzerland, following
a campaign by the 2-million member movement for global equality, All Out (www.allout.org). Engle was to be a featured
guest at TheCall, Geneva, an event to pray that Geneva become “a city of righteous influence”.
Lou Engle is one of America's most infamous anti-gay pastors – known for his public calls to pray for criminal sanctions
against LGBT people. Engle also supported Uganda's brutal 'Kill the Gays' bill, while it included the death penalty.
“Lou Engle and Scott Lively represent the anti-gay fringe of the US evangelical movement. These dangerous extremists
travel the world, preach hate, gather resources and divert them toward the promotion of harmful anti-LGBT laws in places
like Russia and Uganda,” said Andre Banks, Executive Director and co-founder of All Out, a 2 million-member global movement for love and equality.
“This anti-gay strategy has worked in the past and vulnerable LGBT populations have paid the highest price. We will
continue to work with fair-minded citizens across the globe to challenge violent rhetoric with a forceful message of
love and equality,” said Banks.
The venue hosting TheCall, Uptown Geneva, also released a statement on their Facebook page denouncing all hate speech in
their premises.
