Much Needed Bailey Bridge To Arrive May 20
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) on Friday has confirmed the arrival of the New Zealand Government-funded Bailey bridge on Tuesday 20 May.
The Bailey bridge is to replace the old Mataniko Bridge which was washed away during the recent floods.
Director of TSCP-CPIU, Harry Rini said all stakeholders are working to ensure it comes in smoothly and gets to the construction site quickly.
Mr Rini further confirmed that the Solomon Islands Ports Authority and Customs have given priority to this shipment for landing and MID thanks them for their quick action and corporation.
Downer New Zealand Limited, the company contracted to build and install the bridge is in the country with Engineers and 3 local staff.
Mr Rini informed the public that the site around the bridge on both sides of the river is now closed off to public and asks for everyone’s corporation.
It is for the safety of the public that no one moves around in the vicinity when construction is underway.
