PGA sends letter of support to Ukraine’s Acting President
Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) President Ross Robertson has written to Ukraine’s Acting President Oleksandr Turchynov to express his organisation’s sympathy for the loss of life during the recent weeks of protest and to offer its support during the current transitional period.
“In accordance with our PGA vision – to promote the rule of law to contribute to a rules-based international order for a more equitable, safe and democratic world – we encourage President Turchynov in his efforts to fight impunity for the most serious crimes. It is important that such atrocities are prosecuted,” said Ross Robertson.
“We were pleased to learn of the prompt initiative taken concerning the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. PGA strongly encourages the Ukraine to move forward with full formal ratification of the statute, including the Kampala Amendments which send a clear signal of intolerance for impunity.
“By ratifying the Rome Statute at the earliest opportunity, the Ukraine would join the 122 countries around the world and the 41 members of the Council of Europe who have already decided they will have zero tolerance for international crimes.
“The network of PGA stands ready to support the Ukraine in this transitional period as it takes these important steps towards strengthening democracy and the rule of law,” said Ross Robertson.
