Tokelau 2014 Election Underway

Over 60 candidates will be voted on including 24 candidates running for six seats in the Council of the Ongoing Government.

Each island has one voting booth with Samoa based residents casting their votes at booths located at the main Tokelau Apia Liaison Office on the second floor of the National Provident Fund building and one stationed at the Moamoa compound.

Voting systems differ with two villages adapting the preferential voting system with one island using the multiple-round run-off system.

Between six hundred to seven hundred voters are expected to vote with a rough estimation of about two hundred plus on each village and the 60 registered voters from residents in Samoa.

Atafu and Fakaofo village has seven General Fono (Parliament) members with six from Nukunonu to make up the 20 seat of General Fono.
