Russia: No reason for celebration for Arctic 30
While it’s welcome news that some members of the Arctic 30 have been released on bail, Amnesty International has said that they should never have been arrested in the first place.
“There’s no reason for celebration just yet, the fact remains that the charges faced by crew members involved in the Greenpeace Arctic Sunrise protest in Russian waters are still in place and should be dropped altogether,” said Grant Bayldon, Executive Director at Amnesty International New Zealand.
“The Arctic 30 activists, including the two New Zealanders, must be released immediately and the Russian authorities must halt their ill-founded attempts to criminally prosecute them,” said Bayldon.
