Anti-Coup Alliance Statement on Eid Al-Fitr and Steadfastness Until Victory
The pro-legitimacy, pro-democracy coalition in Egypt vows to stand steadfast with the masses of Egyptian people, until
they defeat the coup and reinstate the President they elected, the Constitution they ratified and the Parliament they
chose freely through the ballot-box.

We extend to our great people our sincere wishes and congratulations on Eid-Al-Fitr, as Egyptians struggle peacefully to
wrest their freedom and dignity from the bloody putschists who seized power, overthrew democratic legitimacy and
trampled all over the free will of the people.
Why are we out in the streets and squares of Egypt?
Egyptians took to the streets in continued and continuing demonstrations in all governorates of Egypt and kept constant
vigils in many of the country’s squares for a month and a half already, to express their total rejection of the military
coup that overturned constitutional legality, kidnapped the elected civilian President, suspended the Constitution
approved by a public referendum only months ago, sacked the country’s legislature (the Upper House), and closed
satellite TV channels opposed to the illegitimate traitorous coup, and arrested political leaders.
Egyptians descended onto the nation’s public squares and streets to peacefully protest against the putschist general who
unleashed his troops to kill and injure unarmed demonstrators, with 500 dead and several thousand wounded and 2000
detained without due process in the first three weeks alone. Some of those peaceful protesters were killed as they went
down in prayers, some even inside mosques after unprecedented heinous sieges.
Egyptians massed in millions in rejection of the return of the Mubarak regime, cronies and henchmen, who are already
clamoring for top posts in the ‘new state’ to effectively restore the old tyranny and corruption and to fully abort the
January 25, 2011 Revolution.
They also poured onto the streets in rejection of the return of the police state, of secret police spying on citizens,
of torture and trumped-up charges, of gagging opposition and terrorizing citizens, something which is already taking
place, with the most notorious State Police officers (accused of torture under Mubarak) taking back their offices and
positions.
The Egyptian people have been keeping constant vigils in rejection of ongoing attempts to abort the project of
‘independence and autonomy’, the quest for Egyptian production of food, medicine and weapons, the establishment of giant
development projects such as the Suez Canal corridor, and the Valley of the Technology, and the use of clean nuclear
energy.
They also protest the return to the policy of subordination to the United States and Israel and submission to their
influence against Egypt’s higher national interests.
They refuse the army’s involvement in politics and its neglect of its main, sacred mission of defending the nation’s
borders, because this totally undermines democracy and the sovereignty of the people and installs a dictatorial regime
like the ones Egyptians suffered for at least sixty years.
Steadfastness until victory:
The masses who sacrificed everything, even their blood and their very souls, are peacefully fighting to prevent the
military from getting a stranglehold onto the state and ruling it with iron and fire.
They seek a democratic civil constitutional regime; because that will safeguard Egypt, its people and its current and
future generations against a power-grab via military coup, and a return to the long dark tunnels.
We, therefore, thank all free Egyptians who massed in continuous vigils in all public squares and went out in street
demonstrations in all provinces to complete their January 25, 2011 Revolution, to restore legitimacy and defeat the
coup.
We invite them to more mobilizing and more steadfastness, patience and peacefulness. These are the elements of the
victory that looms not too far in the distance. Their determination during and after Eid-Al-Fitr will show that a real
majority of the Egyptian people do reject the traitorous bloody coup.
All those who have not yet joined the peaceful protests must get positively involved with their fellow citizens in their
peaceful struggle in sit-ins and marches. They must expand demonstration rallies to reach every town, street and
village. This issue is of paramount importance to the homeland and the people with all its denominations and political
colors.
In conclusion, we pray for the honorable martyrs that God will accept them in His mercy, for the injured a speedy
recovery, and for the orphans, bereaved and widows that God gives them patience and solace. It is our duty to care for
them selflessly.
We pray that the murderers, criminals and traitors receive a fair and fast punishment.
“Surely Allah will help him who helps His cause. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might. * Those who, if We give
them power in the land, establish worship and pay the poor-due and enjoin kindness and forbid iniquity. Certainly, the
consequence of all things is in the hands of God.” (Quran 22:40, 41)
God save Egypt, its people and its army from the wicked deeds of some of its leaders.
