Rivers PDP Snubs Gov. Lamido, Soyinka, 3 Others
RIVERS State wing of the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday, gave a cold shoulder to the vising Governor Sule Lamido of
Jigawa State, and three other of his colleagues who were in the state to show solidarity with Governor Chibuike Amaechi.
The party has also cautioned the state Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari to observe
decorum on her comments on issues pertaining to the state which the party said are inciting and portraying the Rivers
people in bad light.
Special Adviser to the State Chairman of the PDP on Media, Jerry Needam, who made this known in an online statement to
AkanimoReports, accused Lamido, who is alleged to prosecuting a joint presidential ticket with Amaechi, of meddling in
the internal affairs of the state.
While regretting the way and manner Mrs. Semenitari has allegedly turned lying and deceit to a tradition in the state by
not informing people rightly in her desperate bid to save her boss, Amaechi who is allegedly busy creating more crisis
in the state, PDP claimed that the peaceful protest by a group of Rivers youths who gathered at the Port Harcourt
International Airport, Omagwa on Tuesday morning, was apparently to disapprove of the solidarity visit to Amaechi by
four opposition Northern governors.
According to the party, ''while Amaechi remains recalcitrant and is bent on creating more confusion in the state, his
information commissioner continues to leave her mouth wide open to lie to the unsuspecting Rivers and the Nigerian
people.
''When has it become conventional for governors and politicians to pay solidarity visits to their colleagues in other
states, abandoning their own responsibilities at home if they are not taking advantage of a tele-guided fellow who has
turned the state to a goldmine to all manner of diggers at the expense of the deprived starved Rivers people''.
The state branch of the PDP said they will not support any group of persons in whatever guise to indulge in any act that
can breach the peace or brew crisis in the state. They accordingly demanded to know why Governor Amaechi’s information
commissioner will always describe those opposed to Ameachi’s excesses as thugs whether they are expressing their views
on paper, radio or physically, but when such protestations are in favour of Amaechi, such persons are hailed as
solidarity visitors etc.
On the visit by the governors of Jigawa, Kano, Niger and Adamawa states as well as Prof. Wole Soyinka, ''we see it as
unnecessary, and is only meant to aggravate the political crisis in the state. It’s the like of these visitors from
across the country that are encouraging Amaechi not to have regard for the Rivers people, elders and constituted
authorities in the state which is unfortunate.
''This visit to Amaechi is certainly political and aimed at aggravating the crisis in the state and is therefore not
welcomed by the people of the state. We also condemn in very strong terms Mrs. Ibim Semenitari’s attempt to link the
Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike to the protest against the visit of the four Northern governors to
Government House, Port Harcourt.
''This is another strategy to divert the attention of the public from the numerous evil plots by Gov. Amaechi to ensure
there is no peace in the state, so that he will continue to rip off the state with his few acolytes”, Rivers PDP said.
