Celebrating Rep. Dingell and Humanitarian Health

International Health Issues: Celebrating Rep. Dingell and Humanitarian Health

With 20,996 days in office, Rep. John Dingell today becomes the longest-serving Member of Congress in U.S. history. It’s a proud moment in American history and for public health.

Over the course of his 57 years in office, Rep. Dingell has made an indelible impact in the health arena, both at home and abroad. I want to personally thank Rep. Dingell for his support of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and for his longstanding efforts on behalf of the Ryan White Care Act. Throughout his years as a leader of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, Rep. Dingell has advocated for agencies that partner with PEPFAR, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health and the Health Resources and Services Administration. The 10 years of success that PEPFAR celebrates this year would not be possible without the breathtaking investment that Congress has made in our lifesaving work. We are grateful for Rep. Dingell’s remarkable contributions to improving public health throughout his long and storied career.

Today is a celebration of healthier lives, longer lives. Thank you for your service, Rep. Dingell. Congratulations.
