Ayman Sharawneh – Leaves For Gaza Strip And Ends Hunger Strike
Ayman Sharawneh, a Hamas activist from Dura/Yatir, was arrested in 2002 for detonating an explosive in Beer Sheba that wounded 18 civilians, an attempted kidnapping of a soldier and involvement in a shooting attack on soldiers. Sharawneh was sentenced to 38 years behind bars, and was released to his home as part of the Schalit deal on 18 October 2011.
Immediately after his release Sharawneh violated his release terms and returned to Hamas activities. Consequently he was rearrested on 30 January 2012 and a request was submitted to revoke his eased sentence and return him to prison to serve the remainder of his term.
A request was submitted on behalf of Ayman in the last few days that would enable him to leave for the Gaza Strip for a period of ten years in lieu of returning to serve the remainder of his sentence.
The request was approved with the agreement of Israeli security entities and the approval of the State Attorney’s Office, stating that he would be able to return to the area after ten years subject to determination that he had not returned to terrorist activities.
Accordingly, Ayman Sharawneh is expected to end his hunger strike and leave for Gaza shortly.
