AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND: 25 January 2013: In an Australian first, MTV World Stage descended on Sydney to film the first leg of the Big Day Out 2013 tour last week. Temperatures reaching a record breaking 46 degrees couldn’t keep the over fifty five thousand fans away as sets performed by Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Band of Horses and Vampire Weekend were recorded in high definition for MTV’s global live music series, MTV World Stage. The world premiere of MTV World Stage Big Day Out will air in Australia and New Zealand on Friday February 8 @ 9:30PM (ADST) and Aussie and Kiwi audiences will also get the exclusive screening of MTV World Stage The Killers first on Friday February 15 @ 10:00PM (ADST). The worldwide telecast of MTV World Stage Big Day Out will air on MTV internationally on February 23rd @ 8:00AM (ADST), telecast into over a half-billion homes on MTV channels around the world.
The February 8 Australian/New Zealand world exclusive of MTV World Stage Big Day Out will feature 60 minutes of live performances by Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Killers, Band of Horses and Vampire Weekend from the January 18 Big Day Out at the Sydney Showground at Sydney Olympic Park. The February 15 telecast of MTV World Stage The Killers will exclusively feature 30-minutes of live performances from The Killers’ Sydney Big Day Out performance.
MTV has dedicated the month of January to Big Day Out with a “Big Month Out” of programming. MTV Hits and MTV Classic have been showcasing the Big Day Out artists from 2013 and years past with Artist Countdowns, Music Polls and Artist vs. Artist format shows. Mirrored on www.mtv.com.au, the site is in Big Day Out overdrive publishing videos, interviews, editorial reviews of the festival and artist sideshows, image galleries and live performances. Hungry Jacks, Lipton Ice Tea, Mitsubishi and Ice Watches are the sponsors of MTV’s Big Month Out.
The Foxtel MTV House Party also proved to be a hit on ground in both Sydney and the Gold Coasy, with Foxtel subscribers taking shelter from the heat in the two story demountable house themed to reflect MTV’s music offerings; MTV, MTV Hits, MTV Classic and MTVHD. Foxtel subscribers were given exclusive access to the house through pre-registration via MTV and Foxtel’s Facebook pages.
MTV World Stage instalments shot at Big Day Out Sydney are being produced by Richard Godfrey and Debbie Phillips and directed by Bernard Zelvis. Godfrey has been Executive Producer of the MTV Europe Music Awards for the past seventeen years. Prior to that he was Senior Vice President, MTV Networks International (MTVNI) Content and Music and produced events and concerts all over the world with many of the world’s biggest music stars including Robbie Williams, Black Eyed Peas, Green Day, Muse, Coldplay and many more.
Debbie Phillips has also produced some of the biggest live music events around the globe. Highlights include the MTV Europe Music Awards for over eight years, live concerts with the biggest international acts, non-music based events such as the Laureus World Sports Awards and Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards and most recently, both the Olympic and Paralympic Closing Ceremonies.
Bernard Zelvis also has a score of live music credits to his name, including MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia i2010 with Katy Perry, Lady Gaga Monster Hall, specials with artists such as Powderfinger, Foo Fighters, The Living End and Death Cab for Cutie, and many more. In addition to having directed ASTRA-award winning television specials and series, he has been involved with Big Day Out to for the past twelve years and was the director of 2012’s first-ever Nickelodeon Slimefest featuring Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy, Stan Walker, Justice Crew, Reece Mastin, Johnny Ruffo and Christina Parie.
