quickly. Soon, 'shooters' will become 'shooter.'] 24 Dec 2012 A gunman shot and killed at least two firefighters responding to a house fire at a Rochester suburb early
Monday. Two other firefighters were in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds, according to a
hospital spokeswoman, The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reported. Fire Marshal Rob Boutillier said the blaze was allowed to spread to two other houses until the area is secured.
Webster police Chief Gerald Pickering said "one or more shooters" fired at the firefighters when they arrived at the
scene near the shore of Lake Ontario. The attacker was still at large at mid-morning. [See? Already singular - within the same article.]
2 firefighters die in ambush at blazing NY house 24 Dec 2012 A gunman ambushed four volunteer firefighters responding to an intense pre-dawn house fire Monday morning
outside Rochester, N.Y., shooting four and killing two before ending up dead himself, authorities said. The gunman fired
at the firefighters when they arrived shortly after 5:30 a.m. at the blaze near the Lake Ontario shore in Webster, town
Police Chief Gerald Pickering said. The first Webster police officer who arrived exchanged gunfire with the suspect,
authorities said. One of the two dead firefighters is also a town police lieutenant; it wasn't clear whether he returned
fire. An off-duty police officer who was driving by has injuries from shrapnel, Pickering said. Two wounded firefighters
were in critical condition at a Rochester hospital, authorities said.
2 firefighters shot at scene of Webster fire; whereabouts of gunman unknown 24 Dec 2012 A Webster firefighter was shot during a call to a fire on Bay Road in Webster. The firefighter, whose name
has not been released, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, according to Webster Fire Marshal Rob Boutillier. Other
firefighters were also shot at, but at this point, no other injuries have been reported. Police have set up a staging
area for media on Bay Road in Webster as part of the investigation.
Moreno Valley: Gun-wielding man triggers Wal-Mart evacuation 24 Dec 2012 (CA) A gun-toting man in camouflage toting walked into a Moreno Valley Wal-Mart Monday, Dec. 24, triggering
an evacuation and a search, according to officials. He entered the store, a Wal-Mart Supercenter, located in the 12700
block of Moreno Beach Drive, at 5:57 a.m. and walked to the back of the store and asked to speak to a manager, according
to sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Morales. "Some eye witnesses are saying he was carrying an M16 assault rifle or maybe a
shotgun," he said. Carrying an M16 is illegal, according to Morales. The suspect fled through the store's backdoor,
Morales said, though whether he talked to a manager or what made the man flee is unknown.

Army plans to shift troops to U.S. Africa Command --Aims for quick crisis response creation 23 Dec 2012 U.S. Africa Command, the military's newest regional force, will have more troops available early next year
as the Pentagon winds down from two ground wars over the past decade, Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, Army chief of staff, told
The Washington Times. As part of Gen. Odierno's Regionally Aligned Forces concept, about 1,200 soldiers will deploy to
Africa as early as March in an effort to place troops strategically around the globe to respond quickly to sudden
challenges in hot spots such as Libya and to develop ties with the people and officials in host countries. "It's about
us moving towards a scalable, tailorable capability that helps them to shape the environment they're working in, doing a
variety of tasks from building partner capability to engagement, to multilateral training to bilateral training to
actual deployment of forces, if necessary," Gen. Odierno said in an interview.
SEAL Team Four commander in Afghanistan 'commits suicide' as body of married father is found shot dead --U.S. military official said death 'appears to be the result of suicide' 23 Dec 2012 The leader of Navy SEAL Team Four, one of the most senior commanders in the elite world of special
operations, has died after apparently committing suicide in Afghanistan, it was reported today. He commanded six
platoons, two-dozen SEAL commandos and numerous support staff, deployed in Uruzgan Province, where they were conducting
counter-terrorism missions and training police in remote parts of the country. SEAL Team Four is one of nine teams of
special operations troops. The most famous of the combat groups is the classified SEAL Team Six, which conducted the
raid that killed 'Osama bin Laden' in May 2011.
Afghan 'rogue' attacks kill US aide and five police 24 Dec 2012 An Afghan policewoman has killed a US civilian aide at the police headquarters in Kabul. It is believed to
be the first such insider attack carried out by a woman. She is now in custody. In a separate incident, at least five
local policemen were killed by another officer in northern Afghanistan. There has been a rise in incidents in which
Afghan security forces members have shot dead either foreign personnel or their own colleagues.
Afghan policewoman kills coalition contractor in Kabul: NATO 24 Dec 2012 An Afghan woman wearing a police uniform shot dead on Monday a civilian contractor working for Western
forces in the police chief's compound in Kabul, NATO said. The incident is likely to raise troubling questions about the
direction of an unpopular war [to protect the CIA's opium routes]. Mohammad Zahir, head of the police criminal investigation department, described the incident as an "insider attack"
in which Afghan forces turn their weapons on Western troops they are supposed to be working with. He initially said the
victim was a U.S. soldier.
