The head of government Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has instructed all heads of government agencies to ensure that all necessary services and facilities are available to the public before and after the movement of Tropical Cyclone Evan.
As the tropical cyclone
continues on its current path, the Prime Minister met
directly with Cabinet Ministers, permanent secretaries and

coordinate closely with each other.
The head of government was briefed on all areas concerning disaster management including the deployment of the armed forces, contingency plans by the public utilities sector and the operations of health services across the country. The Prime Minister has also stressed the importance of engaging with media outlets to allow key messages to be communicated to the public especially those in rural communities.
“The initial damage assessment should be done as rapid as possible so that early decisions can be made on relief efforts and restoration of all essential services such as Water and Electricity and these must be given top priority.”
As head of the civil service, Prime Minister Bainimarama has also instructed all civil servants in the Northern and Western division to remain at home and wait further instructions.
“Only those working in essential services should be at work and they should liaise closely with their departments on this”, Prime Minister Bainimarama said.
Civil servants in both the central and eastern division will report to work throughout the week however any changes will be communicated through the media.
Today’s briefing also saw the Prime Minister reiterate his earlier message that people need to take this seriously and to make sure that all the necessary precautions have taken place.
Government is committed and is ready to ensure that no one is left unattended. We will coordinate the provision of emergency supplies including food and water and have these delivered to possible affected areas
