Monumental Triumph in $6 billion NDIS Funding Agreement
People with Disability Australia (PWDA) congratulates the Commonwealth and NSW Governments in successfully landing the
agreement on how the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will be fully funded for people with disability in NSW.
Both Governments have agreed to share the cost of implementing the scheme in pledging over $3 billion each. This
agreement will see approximately 140,000 people in NSW receive the support they require when the scheme rolls out in
full in 2018.
“We welcome this bipartisan announcement by the Prime Minister and Premier O’Farrell which will mean that thousands of
people with disability will be celebrating tonight across NSW,” says PWDA President Craig Wallace.
“People have been asking how do we fund this – I think NSW has just provided an answer and shown that the NDIS is above
politics and that we can move beyond the usual COAG arguments on this important issue of rights and fairness for people
with a disability.”
“We now call on the leaders of States and Territories across Australia to follow suit and lock in full ongoing funding
for the NDIS along with the Australian Government.”
