Afghanistan Foundation to Hold US Congressional Forum

Afghanistan Foundation to Hold US Congressional Forum on Policy Developments in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India

The Afghanistan Foundation will hold a U.S. Congressional policy forum and briefing on developments in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and the region, including recent political, security, economic and human rights developments. Recent reports regarding the potential deployment of thousands of additional U.S. military troops in Afghanistan after the slated 2014 American pullout will also be highlighted and discussed.

“Recent developments in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and the region continue to be of keen concern to the policymaking community in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Congress,” said Philip Smith, Director and President of the Afghanistan Foundation. “The full implications, strategy, objectives and costs of the potential deployment of thousands of additional U.S. military troops in Afghanistan after the slated 2014 American pullout are not fully unclear to many U.S. and international policymakers, including many in the U.S. Congress and on Capitol Hill.”

“We seek to discuss and elucidate these and other key policy matters and developments regarding Afghanistan and the region,” Smith stated.

President Hamid Karzai’s recent trip to India will also be discussed.

Key note speakers include: Philip Smith, Director and President, Afghanistan Foundation; Mariam Khan, Research Director, Afghanistan Foundation; Anna Jones, Senior Research Director, Center for Public Policy Analysis, U.S. Congressional staff, Members of Congress and others.
