Comprehensive New Guides For Island Agri Exporters Launched
A set of six new exporting guides for Pacific Islands agriculture exporters have been released today. The guides are the result of a joint project between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Pacific Islands Trade & Invest (PT).
Speaking at the release of the guides in Auckland this morning, Adam Denniss, Trade Commissioner, PT New Zealand said, "In discussion with various Industry leaders, researchers, and business owners it became clear that a gap existed between well researched -- but long -- scientific documents on products and industry, and short trade and export opportunity oriented market briefs.
"These 'Market Guides' are the result of our attempt to fill that gap."
Outlining how the reports were put together Mr Denniss said, "The guides are primarily the result of nine months of tireless work from one PT team member, Joe Fuavao."
"Firstly, he undertook reviews of the relevant existing market and industry papers and research documents. He then compiled, summarised and documented their findings, listing recommendations and significant outcomes that could be used by Pacific business. Then he hit the pavement: interviews, meetings and phone calls, visiting markets and countries to talk with suppliers, wholesalers, distributors, business owners and began to craft each of the documents you see here.
"The results are Market guides which we hope have research quality to them, yet speak in language that we know business understands. The Trade Commission offers unique access to core information on market opportunities and how to access markets that few can easily get access to. Combined with FAO's research strength we hope to have placed some of that information here for your review."
Mr Denniss said the guides were complete, complex and of a standard not seen for a long time. "I am extremely proud to have these Market Guides as the first release of work that the Commission will continue to do over the years in this space and I hope you enjoy reading them and adding them to your business toolbox as much as I have," he added.
Caleb Jarvis, PT's Trade Commissioner in Australia and the PT Sydney team were also commended for their support and guidance on the reports' content relating to the Australian marketplace.
"Both offices work closely together to maximize our impact for Pacific Island businesses," Mr Denniss said.
Mr Denniss also acknowledged FAO's partnership, specifically thanking Jamie Morrison for his experience, knowledge and guidance throughout the project.
The documents are available online for free download.
