Top US commander in Afghanistan, Gen. Allen, implicated in Petraeus scandal --Pentagon: FBI found 20,000 to 30,000 pages of 'inappropriate' emails between General Allen and Jill Kelley 13 Nov 2012 The US head of NATO forces in Afghanistan is under investigation in connection with the sex scandal that
saw CIA director David Petraeus resign. Gen. Allen exchanged "inappropriate" emails with a woman linked to Petraeus. The
FBI has found 20,000 to 30,000 pages of allegedly inappropriate emails between General Allen and Jill Kelley, says the
Pentagon. Mrs. Kelley was implicated in the Petraeus affair after telling the FBI she received threatening emails from
the former CIA chief's mistress, Paula Broadwell.
Top U.S. commander in Afghanistan investigated for emails to Petraeus friend 13 Nov 2012 In a new twist to the Gen. David Petraeus sex scandal, the Pentagon said Tuesday that the top American
commander in Afghanistan, Gen. John Allen, is under investigation for alleged "inappropriate communications" with a
woman who is said to have received threatening emails from Paula Broadwell, the woman with whom Petraeus had an
extramarital affair. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said in a written statement issued to reporters aboard his aircraft,
en route from Honolulu to Perth, Australia, that the FBI referred the matter to the Pentagon on Sunday. Panetta said
that he ordered a Pentagon investigation of Allen on Monday.
New scandal: FBI agent BANNED from investigation into Petraeus's affair after he 'grew obsessed' with a woman at the
center of the probe and sent her shirtless photos 12 Nov 2012 A federal agent was pulled off the investigation into David Petraeus's illicit contact with Paula Broadwell
when the agent reportedly became obsessed with another woman involved in the probe, The Wall Street Journal reports. The
FBI found that the agent had sent shirtless photos of himself to Jill Kelley, the Tampa woman who reportedly received a
half dozen emails from Broadwell that warned Kelley to stay away from Petraeus. The emails were sent from anonymous
accounts. That same agent was a friend of Kelley's and he had started the FBI investigation into the emails -- which
eventually led to Petraeus's downfall -- after Kelley came to him for help upon receiving the anonymous threats.
FBI Agent in Petraeus Case Under Scrutiny 12 Nov 2012 A federal agent who launched the investigation that ultimately led to the resignation of Central
Intelligence Agency chief David Petraeus was barred from taking part in the case over the summer due to superiors'
concerns that he was personally involved in the case, according to officials familiar with the probe. After being
blocked from the case, the agent continued to press the matter, relaying his concerns to a member of Congress, the
officials said. New details about how the Federal Bureau of Investigation handled the case suggest that even as the
bureau delved into Mr. Petraeus's personal life, the agency had to address conduct by its own agent-who allegedly sent
shirtless photos of himself to a woman involved in the case prior to the investigation.
FBI search Petraeus mistress Paula Broadwell's home 12 Nov 2012 The Federal Bureau of Investigation is searching the home of the woman who had an extramarital affair with
former CIA director David Petraeus. FBI spokeswoman Shelley Lynch confirmed to the BBC on Monday night that agents were
at Paula Broadwell's house in Charlotte, North Carolina. The FBI spokeswoman told the BBC that agents arrived at the
Broadwell home in the Dilworth neighbourhood of the city just before 21:00 local time (02:00 GMT).
FBI: Petraeus Affair Part of Criminal Probe 12 Nov 2012 The FBI withheld its findings about Gen. David Petraeus's affair from the White House and congressional
leaders because the agency considered them the result of a criminal investigation that never reached the threshold of an
intelligence probe, law enforcement sources said today. The sources said agents followed department guidelines that
generally bar sharing information about developing criminal investigations. The FBI is also aware of its history under
former director J. Edgar Hoover of playing politics and digging into the lives of public figures. The FBI's focus was on
whether laws were broken, in this case whether federal cyber-harassment statutes were violated.
8m children on secret database --One database is already used by about 100 local authorities 11 Nov 2012 A database containing the personal details of 8m schoolchildren is being created without parents' knowledge
by one of Britain's biggest contractors to government. Information gathered by teachers on pupils across the country is
being uploaded up to six times a day into a database called "One" that has been created by Capita, a company that
specialises in providing IT systems. Documents seen by The Sunday Times reveal that access to the data -- which includes
age, sex, address, academic record, absenteeism, special needs and bad behaviour leading to exclusion -- can be provided
to thousands of other officials including police, NHS staff and charities.
British medical journal slams Roche on Tamiflu 12 Nov 2012 A leading British medical journal is asking the drug maker Roche to release all its data on Tamiflu,
claiming there is no evidence the drug can actually stop the flu. The drug has been stockpiled by dozens of governments
worldwide in case of a global flu outbreak and was widely used during the 2009 swine flu pandemic. On Monday, one of the
researchers linked to the BMJ journal called for European governments to sue Roche. "I suggest we boycott Roche's
products until they publish missing Tamiflu data," wrote Peter Gotzsche, leader of the Nordic Cochrane Centre in
Copenhagen. He said governments should take legal action against Roche to get the money back that was "needlessly" spent on stockpiling

Police fatally shoot Marine in California desert 12 Nov 2012 Police fatally shot a Camp Pendleton Marine who struck an officer with a car in a parking garage in Palm
Springs, authorities said Monday. The Marine repeatedly ignored orders to stop after being approached by officers on
bike patrol around 2 a.m. Saturday, the Palm Springs Police Department said in a statement. One of the officers
partially climbed into the passenger window to stop the car, but the Marine accelerated, striking the other officer, the
department said.
Will MSNBC Continue to Shill for the Great Betrayal? By William K. Black 12 Nov 2012 The austerity component of the Grand Bargain was economically illiterate. Within the
administration, it was the product of refusing to listen to its economists and listening instead to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. Geithner is not an economist. Geithner hated Obama's stimulus program and embraced austerity. He convinced Obama to
embrace an austerity deal that would have inflicted a gratuitous second recession on America and doom Obama's chance of
re-election. Geithner had a powerful ally in convincing Obama to adopt such a program. Obama had decided to signal his
fidelity to Wall Street by appointing William Daley as his Chief of Staff. Daley was from JP Morgan Chase. He came from
(and has returned to) The Third Way - a Wall Street front group dedicated to pushing austerity and trying to further
enrich Wall Street by privatizing Social Security. Daley's Third Way bio emphasizes his roles: "As Special Counsel to
President Clinton in 1993, Daley coordinated the successful campaign to pass the North American Free Trade Agreement
(NAFTA). He was co-chair of the US Chamber of Commerce Center for Capital Markets Competitiveness." "Capital markets
competitiveness" is code for pushing the deregulation of finance... Obama had the great luck that House Tea Party fanatics ultimately caused
Boehner not to consummate the Faustian bargain... Logic would compel MSNBC to oppose the deal. But MSNBC has a warring
imperative -- its hosts worship Obama and are awash in endorphins as a result of his re-election... Every host, every journalist, and every guest on the programs who discussed the issue took it as a given that it was
essential and urgent that Obama and Boehner agree to austerity and severe cuts in the safety net. There was no
discussion of the merits. It was treated as obvious. The consistent message was that it was essential that we support our President unreservedly.
Argentine Judge Freezes Chevron Assets to Pay $19 Billion Ecuador Fine 12 Nov 2012 Adrian Elcuj Miranda, a judge in Buenos Aires, has ordered the seizure of Chevron's assets in Argentina, to
force the company to pay a $19 billion penalty for polluting the Amazon in Ecuador. The plaintiffs are seeking similar legal action in Brazil, Canada, Colombia and other countries... In 2011 the Ecuadorean courts ruled against Chevron and ordered the
company to pay $18.2 billion in damages, which was increased to $19 billion this past July. Chevron appealed the
judgement but the Ecuadorean appellate court ruled against the company on January 3, 2012. Chevron is now trying a multitude of ways to defeat the ruling such as appealing the Ecuadorean
fine in U.S. courts.
Sandy: 150,000 Homes Still Without Power 12 Nov 2012 More than 150,000 homes and businesses are still waiting for the lights to come back on two weeks after
superstorm Sandy. The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) in New York has about 130,000 customers still without power.
Most of the remaining homes without power are located in New Jersey. The totals do not include the tens of thousands of
homes that are too damaged to have electricity restored.
Officials: 2 killed, 80 homes affected after massive explosion in Indianapolis 11 Nov 2012 It must be a bomb. That was Debbie Wagner's first thought when she heard the boom as she lay in bed
overnight Saturday in her home on Indianapolis's Southside... Only later did Wagner and her husband Andy learn that,
among their neighbors, they were some of the lucky ones. A huge explosion had pierced the nighttime silence and ripped
through the streets before characterized by solid two-story homes, garages and lawns.Two adults were killed, while seven
others went to area hospitals, due to the explosion and related fires, said Deputy Chief Kenny Bacon of the Indianapolis
Fire Department.
