ICRC president visits Brussels and Paris
Geneva (ICRC) – Peter Maurer, president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has begun a two-day
visit to Brussels and Paris.
During his stay in Brussels he will meet senior European Union officials, including Catherine Ashton, high
representative of the EU for foreign affairs and security policy and vice-president of the European Commission,
Kristalina Georgieva, commissioner for international cooperation, humanitarian aid and crisis response, Pierre Vimont,
executive secretary general of the European External Action Service, and members of the Political and Security Committee
of the Council of the EU.
On 17 October, Mr Maurer will be in Paris to meet with François Hollande, president of France, Laurent Fabius, minister
of foreign and European affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian, minister of defence, and members of the United Nations and
International Organisations Division of the Foreign Ministry.
The talks will focus on the humanitarian situation in some of the ICRC’s main areas of operations, including Syria, Mali
and Afghanistan. These high-level meetings are part of the dialogue and cooperation between the ICRC, the EU and France
on humanitarian issues and other matters of common interest.
