MOSOP STATEMENT
Ogoni Self Government
Reducing Nigeria’s threat to global peace and security, says Diigbo
Sunday, 26 August 2012 will be observed worldwide to mark the 22nd Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Ogoni Bill of Rights (OBR) which took place on the 26th of August 1990.
Meanwhile, MOSOP President/Spokesman, Dr. Goodluck Diigbo has welcomed as sound judgment - the statement credited to Hon. Bernard Mikko in Abuja, Nigeria for his effort to promote public education on the Ogoni self-government.
Diigbo said Mikko’s statement illustrates proper understanding of obligations of Nigeria to end tribal and ethnic domination, discrimination and oppression that threaten peace and security in the world. Deflate
Hon. Mikko who was a member of the National Assembly that once represented the Khana-Gokana Federal Constituency in Ogoni, said the Ogoni self-government declaration within Nigeria of August 2, 2012 was legitimate under international and domestic laws.
Diigbo pointed out that unlike most Nigerian politicians, Mikko is a strong believer in nonviolence discipline and highly respected by the Ogoni people for several lawful initiatives meant to free Ogoni from political marginalization and economic exploitation in Nigeria.
On his own volition, Mikko courageously presented the Ogoni Bill of Rights to former President Olusengun Obasanjo reminding his administration of the Bill, which was first presented to the government and people of Nigeria in 1990.
“In response, President Obasanjo had promptly involved Bishop Matthew Kukah to resolve existing conflicts between the Ogoni people on one hand and the government and the Anglo-Royal Dutch/Shell, among others; but regrettably, that effort was partly thwarted by selfish and corrupt interests within Ogoni and without,” Diigbo recalled.
Many Ogoni leaders in Nigeria, Europe and the United States of America have already praised the statement by Hon. Mikko.
