False Fear
False Fear
Editor,
Praneet Singh of Sacramento, USA was right (The Fiji Times 28/6) when he told us there was no reason for WikiLeak's editor Julian Assange to fear persecution at the hands of the US if he was extradited to Sweden.
Praneet informed us that "the people here[in the US] had moved on" and that Assange's "antics" were meant "to draw attention to himself".
And, we seem to have a confirmation of this from Jeffrey Bliss the US Ambassador in Sydney . Ambassador Bliss tells us in ambassador speak in ABC Four Corners on 23 July that the US indeed has no plans to persecute Assange.
I was doubtful of Praneet's claim but how can I not accept the word of the Honourable Ambassador?
Andrew Fowler of ABC Four Corners travelled all the way to Britain and Sweden to interview key people so that the pieces of the puzzle of the Assange sex scandal and subsequent court proceedings could be put together to make more coherent sense of it.
The ABC Four Corners has done a wonderful job in throwing more illuminating light on the Assange case.
I suggest some of my fellow letter writers like Praneet Singh, Zorawar Singh,, Nardeo Mishra, and Dr Roy Krishna ( the personalised number plate wallah) see the ABC documentary for a clearer understanding of the way the US state authorities conduct themselves.
I guarantee them they will find it very educational.
Is Assange's fear a false one?
The documentary provides an answer.
Yours sincerely,
