RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- The de facto government of the Palestinian authority (PA) on Tuesday declared its intention to conduct municipal elections next October in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The decision was denounced by Hamas Movement which said that such a step would undermine the current Palestinian reconciliation efforts.
Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri told the French press agency AFP that this decision was a departure from the reconciliation agreements and an attempt to impose a fait accompli on the ground.
"We consider this step an escalation by the PA aimed at thwarting the reconciliation, so it assumes responsibility for any consequent developments," the spokesman underlined.
