GAZA,(PIC)– Mass celebrations were held throughout the West Bank and the Gaza strip over the victory of Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mursi in Egypt’s presidential elections.
The announcement triggered massive cheers and celebratory gunfire and firework, as calls of “Allahu Akbar” rang from mosques across the enclave and residents shared sweets in the streets.
The Gaza Strip people came out onto the streets in spontaneous celebration parades, raising Mursi’s pictures and the Palestinian and Egyptian flags.
Celebrating in the streets
Hamas movement congratulated, through the loudspeakers of mosques in the Gaza Strip, the Egyptian and Palestinian people and the Arab nation by Mursi’s victory, calling on the people to participate in the rallies that begun after the Maghrib prayer from all mosques in the Gaza Strip.
For his part, MP in the Legislative Council and a leader in Hamas,Yunis al-Astal, said that the victory of the Muslim Brotherhood candidate is a victory for the Islamic leadership that will lead the world towards the compassion of Islam after years of oppression of tyrant rulers that have been changed by the Arab revolutions.
During a massive march that started from the Grand Mosque in Khan Younis after Maghrib prayer on Sunday to celebrate Dr. Mursi’s victory, al-Astal said that Mursi’s victory is a victory for the peoples’ resistance and revolutions against the tyranny and oppression of the rulers.
Al-Astal said that this win is a defeat to the Zionists who hoped that the coming president will guarantee their interests and to give them the green light in their actions, a defeat to America which thought it can keep the Muslim nation subservient through the use of sheer power, and a defeat to the corrupt media that plotted against Muslims who work towards the nation’s renaissance.
Al-Astal called on the new Egyptian president to deal with the Palestinian case as a priority despite the internal challenges and issues, recalling the Gaza war that was launched against the Palestinian people’s legitimate will and choice in the Palestinian legislative elections.
Meanwhile, mass celebrations took place in the West Bank despite the security situation that prevailed immediately after the announcement of Egypt’s first democratic president Dr. Mohammed Mursi.
The citizens of the West Bank showed great interest over the declaration of the presidency election result.
Many people were prostrating and praising God for Mursi’s victory despite the misrepresentations that preceded the result that declared Mursi’s win with 51.7 percent of last weekend’s run-off vote.
