Death in Miskitia Land and the Search for Justice
The recent publication of non-governmental human rights investigations of the May 11, 2012 botched Honduran--DEA anti-narcotics operation in the Miskitia draws attention to the plight of the families of those killed, the wounded who require continued medical care, and the Ahuas community which has been subjected to increased policing and surveillance. This essay looks at how this event has been reported and argues that despite the current paucity of journalistic coverage the people of Miskitia and the international human rights community are voicing legitimate demands for accountability and justice.

Recent moves by U.S. President Barack Obama have again shed light on the ongoing struggle of the LGBTQ community to achieve social equality throughout the hemisphere, and Latin America appears poised to be in the vanguard of this struggle.
