Israeli navy kidnaps 3 Palestinian fishermen at sea

06/06/2012

GAZA, (PIC)-- Israeli navy gunboats attacked Palestinian fishermen and kidnapped three of them on Wednesday morning while working at sea off the Rafah coast, the Palestinian ministry of agriculture in Gaza said.

The ministry’s fisheries department said in a statement that the navy forces attacked a small fishing boat and kidnapped three fishermen on board including two brothers.

It said that the fishermen were working to win their sole source of sustenance and within the allowed range of three nautical miles.

It said the Israeli navy’s chase of those fishermen and their boats had escalated lately, noting that the practice increases at the advent of each fishing season.

The ministry held the Israeli occupation authority responsible for the lives of those fishermen, urging human rights groups and the Red Cross to immediately intervene and demand the release of those fishermen and their equipment.
